General shops and dedicated Furniture Shops have different rules — furniture and some electricals go to the Furniture Shops.

Furniture

  • Can't accept Damaged, broken or incomplete furniture

  • Can't accept Upholstered furniture without a fire label

    Applies at Furniture Shops, the only Shelter locations that take furniture; required by law.

  • Check first Mattresses

    Accepted, but only at the dedicated Furniture Shops, not general shops.

Electrical

  • Can't accept Large appliances and white goods

    White goods are excluded even at Furniture Shops.

    Small electricals (lights, lamps, kettles) accepted only at Furniture Shops and only in good condition.

    Underwear/pyjamas need new tags; swimwear needs new tags plus a hygiene strip.
